Hi,

First of all, I am no expert at all and am learning.

I'm wondering if pwc's are truly necessary if water tests continually remain acceptable and no activity raises the need like after using meds, etc.

Ever since I setup my tank I've been routinely having my water tested at Petsmart before and after pwc's every 4 to 5 days. The results always stay the same except for hardness and alkalinity but never at levels that raise concern (80 - 120). They use Jungle Lab's 6-in-1 and Ammonia.

For now I plan on raising the bar to every 2 weeks, but really, is it necessary?

Thanks

Of course I will also have some bottom cleaners such as min i Albino Corys or Clown Loaches (I know, they get big) or Yoyo Loaches. What do you think about it? Yes, I would really like another 55 gallon, but I don't have enough wall space left for a 4 foot tank

Hello, this is my first post, I am a complete novice I'm afraid. I bought my new Jewel Vision 180 litres about 3 weeks ago. After cleaning the gravel and filling the tank I added the water conditioner, set the temprature to 26.79 and put the caves and objects in. After 1 week I added about 20 Guppies, they were fine so a few days later I added a Albino Rainbow shark, silver shark, two clown loaches and a sucker catfish pleco. Again one week later they were again thriving and getting along fine, I then completed my tank by adding 8 tetra, two platties and one male beta. I also added 1 live plant and 1 plastic plant covering the filter. This is where my problems have started, 4 of my 8 tetra have died, one of them within a few hours the others within 2 days, I don't think the other will have long either. All my other fish seem fine though except for my male Beta who is acting really wierd, he is either just still looking dead by the filter at the top or hiding at the bottom, he does sometimes swim around but his tail and other bits seem very droopy and his body seems to be losing colour. I have just ordered a Ammonia test kit and digital Ph reader to test the water although I feel it may be ammonia levels. I think I may of rushed and introduced to many fish to soon and am now worried about the other fish I have although they seem ok at the moment. Any help from yoiu experts will be appreciated as I would like to help the beta. I will do a 25% water change tomorrow to see if that helps.

They are so funny together hahaa!
I thought he was living up to his name and sucking her scales but he chases her and then sits on top of her for a ride around hahaa.
They he will be sucking the tank and she will swim into him and then over him and they will chase all day hahaa!

Yeah anyway - i need some pretty, pref colourful fishies to add to my coldwater / roomwater 15L or 4GL tank.
Please could someone help me?

My 2 platys had whitespot but they as a result of other medical implications had to be sent to the big pond in the sky.
I saw a spot on my paradise yet for just over 8 days its been gone completely. I didnt therefore remove the carbon in my filter and just kept adding the king british for around 3 days on and off just to see if there was any change, and nothing changed, i also starved the fish for 1 day and then fed and then starved for 1 day, i did this for 4 days.
So...
Please any advice would help?
Thanks x

Hey everyone,

I'm new here and bought a 55 gallon tank several months ago. I'm ready to start setting everything up and gather supplies but I am still torn about whether to try a planted or non-planted tank.

In a perfect world I would love a fantastic planted tank but I'm trying to be realistic with the amount of time and money I can dedicate to sustaining a planted community.

However I've yet to see a tank with fake/silk plants that really struck me. What I am wondering about is if a great tank can be created with artifical plants. If so would anyone be able to post some pictures of examples that I can see?

And for the record I'm going to let the plants determine what I stock the tank with. So if I go with a live tank I will get fish that will leave them alone.

Thanks in advance, and be fore warned I will probably have plenty of questions. I'm honestly pretty scared about it to be honest. I want it to look nice and I want to do it right.

A few weeks ago I saw what looked like small worms in my new aquarium but they turned out to be insect larva. I'm pretty sure it's a tiny fly with large (for it's size) rounded wings. I looked in my filter today, a Marineland 400 biowheel, and saw what looked like quite a number of the larva, along with another of the flies, on the sponge filters where they are sticking out just above the water level. This tank is in the process of cycling but I'm hoping I can get rid of those before they all become flies. Would it be safe to rinse the filter sponges in a bucket of aquarium water or would that be likely to harm the bacteria that I need for the cycle?
