My Squamosa clam has been closed up tight for a couple days now. Anyone have any ideas why? Is it dying? I would have thought it would be gaping open if it was dead. Any help will be appreciated. This is the only clam I`ve ever had. I guess it`s about three yrs old.

I have 55 gallon w LR and: sailfin tang, two damsels, chromis, coral beauty, clown, hermits of varouse colors and sizes (about 10), sifting star, turbo snails, 2 pepermint shrimp, about 3 or 4 snapping shrimp and a couple small crabs of some sort.
At first I woke up and noticed that the stems of the xenias were gone then the next day the whole thing was eaten. Somthing in my tank loves to eat xenias.

so, when i started my tank in may, i knew i wanted a pair of bangaii cardinals.
the bf wanted a firefish, so we got that first in june. i figured i should get any other peaceful fish i may want before adding 'semi-aggressive' cardinals, so i got a tank-bred ocellaris clown in july.

in august, i got one bangaii from one lfs (only one left) and one from a different lfs the next day. they each died three days after purchase in the 10g qt. the pH was out of control. i hadn't checked it with the other parameter checks at first because, since may, the pH hasn't strayed at all. so, that was a terrible mistake on my part and i felt awful.
since, i've been diligent in checking water parameters and haven't subjected any fish to less than ideal water.

i got another pair of bangaiis in september that died about a week after purchase. one of the fish may have been beat up by the other, but two days later, the other one died, too. after that, i drained the tank and cleaned it with some vinegar.

last monday, i bought another pair. one died friday, the other died yesterday.

of all 6, i only witnessed one eat (wouldn't eat frozen mix of shrimp, garlic, and nori that the dt gets regularly, but it finally ate a live bloodworm), so 2-3 of the fish very well may have died from starvation (i know, i know, i should've requested to see them eat at the lfs).

i have a last ditch effort in mind before completely giving up on having bangaiis.
i plan to empty the qt and clean it with bleach before purchasing a pair of tank-bred cardinals from dr.s foster & smith.
the bleach would be precautionary, just in case the fish that have died were sick, even though i doubt it. and i figure buying tank-bred is not only better for the species at large, but they've ONLY eaten in captivity, so feeding wouldn't be such an issue (my tank-bred clown eats from my hand) and i'd have a better chance at keeping some healthy, happy fish.

so my question: is it time i finally stop torturing this kind of fish? or does my final attempt sound alright?

First, the essentials: 125gal mixed reef with ~180lbs live rock, 30lbs of which are in the wet/dry filter as rubble. Sg 1.026, pH 8.4, Nitrites 0, Ammonia 0, Nitrates 1, Ca 440-460 (I hate Ca tests!), KH/Alkalinity 8.6/3.09 (Salifert tests). I've had this tank set up for about 2.5-3 years. I'm running 3 units of ChemPure, and when this problem came up, I put in another bag of regular carbon just in case there was coral warfare going on.

The problem: My frogspawn started dying off about 2 weeks ago. I watched three heads die off (in anguish!) last week. I thought it might be in too high of a flow, so I moved it to a spot with lesser flow. Now, two other branches (four heads) quit extending out as much as they normally do. My LFS recommended cutting off the dead branches, which I did yesterday. Today, I came home to find that the remaining three heads (the original frag I started with!) is also starting extend its arms much less.

There is a hammer coral less than six inches away from this same frogspawn that is doing fabulously, and has doubled in size in the last month. Tonight however, on the other side of the tank, I also discovered that my torch coral, normally a showpiece, has one head that looks like its shedding and is pulling away from its skeleton. It also does not look like it's extension is as far as usual.

Help! I really don't want to think about losing more Euphillya heads, but I'm not sure what else to do.

A) Is the starfish going to make it with this type of damage?
B) What would have caused this? Got caught on a powerhead but was still able to get away??

I bought two turbos about a month ago, but just recently i haven't been able to find one of them.

Today, i noticed a brown blob on my glass. when i looked at it closely, it looks like my other turbo snail, same shape and it was scraping the glass the same way, the same pattern as the turbo does. But this guy didn't have a shell. It was just a fuzzy blob that looked like a turbo from the underside.

Is this my turbo snail? Could it have lost it's shell somewhere?

I hear about the nightmare of getting flat worms, and thats the first thing i thought of when i saw the brown blob, but now i'm not sure.

Anyone have any ideas?

Has anyone had any experience with this chemical? I have been treating my tank with garlic and water changes every couple days, I had a mass break out of ich. My LFS reccommended this because the garlic and warmer temps aren't working. I treated it last night and hoped to see some improvements, but really didn't see any. On the bottle it says a single treatment lasting 5-7 days is sufficient. I am assuming that I need to put a treatment in every day for 5-7 days...I am not much into using chemicals on my fish, so it is confusing.
Thanks!
