I'm new to this site. I hope to be able to learn new things in this forum, as well as share to you what i know about fishes. I read about them often as I find them truly interesting, but apparently i do not have a tank yet. I am thinking of having one. What's stopping me is the policies here in our condominium. You are only allowed a few gallons. Anyway, I really do hope to meet a few experts here to help me set up my aquariums.

I just started with my very first ten gallon tank and I am sure there will be plenty of mishaps to come.

I'll do my best to keep my little fishies alive, hopefully with your help!

All I've done is install the over the top filter thingy and dechlorinized the water I put in, which was only like 7 gallons (for now).

Also, I put two little underwater frogs and a little catfish in there and they seem happy as can be.

Next I think I'll get one of those under the rock filters and some fun aquarium goodies, let me know if you have any suggestions,

Thank you,

Hi All:
Thanks for taking the time to read this....I am in the process of putting together a new tank.
Recently was given (free) a 100 tall hex tank with a Eheim Professional II Filter and a TetraTec Deepwater Pump. A stand and lighting fixture were included too. I have a great many questions LOL
Setting this one up seems a bit more daunting than my progression from 20 to 40 gallons was :-)
Any pics out there of tall hex tanks decorated? I set up my current 40 gal with 2 large driftwood pieces, slate and rock walls/caves and some artificial plants - very amazony looking and the water is a nice tea color from the tannins - the fish are very happy! Since I have this already, what to do with the tall tank??? Also, how to stock? I would like to have fish in all the swiming sectors - any suggestions on that front?
Oh, and how about where to get a canopy/top for the tank?
Thanks in advance for the great site and any help....
Cheers,

Hi I am new to the site and I just wanted to break the ice a little bit.

I have been in the hobby a long time since I was about 10 I think I started with freshwater tanks and played around with thtem for a bit and then when I was about 18 I started breed african cichlids mainly from lake tanganyika but I did flirt with Malawi as well. and Ihave been out of that now for about 5 years. I now focus only on marine aquariums I have a 30 gal reef right now and I am currently working on a 100g set up with a 90 gal sump and cost to coast overflow it is up and running I am workink on the rockscape going for the Bonsai look I think, then i will get the flow in there I am thinking of 3 hydor 4 or maybe 3 hydor 3 hummm  which would be better. then I will work on the lighting I think I am going to go with lumen bright reflec lrg and 250 w bulbs and maybe some moon ligths all is work in progress and nothing is concrete. if I can save money I would like to any ideas suggestions anyone lol.

but we all know what that means I eventually want to go bigger so I can keep more fish. so I guess I am going to have to learn how to build and acrylic aquarium lol. I will also need to know how to make my own LR so I can save money in both areas so I can spend more else were lol.

anyways there yo all go a little about me.

Hi guys,

I have had my first tank up and running now for around 5months with pretty decent success...the tank is a 60Litre freshwater tank and I currently have 2 red-capped orandas and 4 danios (not sure their full name)

I was sold a sick Oranda which died within 2 days of me setting up the tank but the other one has been fine ever since. I replaced the sick oranda and he has been fine until now...will explain in a bit...

About 2 months in I bought 5 danios, 4 of which are still fighting fit (boy are they lively guys) but unfortunately one of them got stuck behind my filter a few weeks ago and when I found him was unfortunately dead :(.

My oranda who is not currently unwell is swimming around upside down at the moment, mainly being moved around by the current from the filter and really strange to me is the fact that my original oranda keeps carrying him on his back to the top of the tank... its almost as if its performing some sort of motherly, parental duty trying to keep him active...is that normal behaviour for orandas??

i understand some orandas do this from time to time but after a few days resume to normal, i hope this is right because i take good care of the little guys and would hate to see a fatality :(....

Thanks for reading

Jon

We are a community of sisters here and I have just inherited a small pond, but it is in such bad shape that we plan to start from scratch in the spring. Meanwhile I have been advised to move the goldfish to an aquarium for the winter. Very cold in Nevada, hence this effort. Otherwise my field is music and web design and I have a great love for animals. Originally from Switzerland and Scotland. Already have 2 questions which will post (hopefully) in the right place very soon. :D

Just like to introduce myself. Just started a 45H tank about two weeks ago with live sand from FS and Marco Rocks with about 10lb of seed cured fuji. I am new to saltwater and had only dabbled in freshwater many years ago. I loved orandas and angels. My daughter has always had saltwater and she has inspired me to drag out the old tank and try my hand at it. I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and my resources are very limited. Believe it or not, I only live about 60 miles from Foster and Smiths wisconsin Factory. Most of my items will be aquired online. Thanks for any advise you can give.

Hello everyone,

For months, I have been coming to this website for advice. I am pleased to finally be able to introduce myself to those who have been such a huge help to me in the past. I have a 33 gallon freshwater tank that contains Mollies, Platies, and guppies. The family continues to grow from month to month.

I am excited to say, that with the help of this site, I have been able to successfully raise my second litter of Molly fry. This in itself has made a huge impact on me. I've become rediculously fascinated by my new children.

It's been a wonderful gift, being able to share my fish with my nephews, friends and siblings and my learned knowledge with them, getting their tanks going strong. All those babies have made so many people smile. It all began with just two... :)

I look forward to sharing and learning with you!

I love this site! When I first had a fish tank many many years ago the internet was still new and this wasn't available. I had a 100 gal fish tank with 3 oscars and a clown knife fish and a arawana. I unfortuanatly had to move and I had to put my tank in storage. Well over the years and countless moves later my fish tank was destroyed by careless movers. Now that I have 3 kids wanted to start up a new project and am trying to instill my love of fish onto them. I have been handed down a 12 gallon fish tank and just set it up last night! Having a little trouble understanding about all this nitrate and substrate stuff as I never did anything to my old tank other than feed the fish. Well looking forward to learning new stuff.
