Chat Broken?

I tried to join the Chat just now, but get a message saying I must "identify to my nick" in order to join an unmanaged channel...

what's the deal? - private meeting time / server error / bad luck?

When there is not an OP in the room, only registered nicks are allowed to enter a room. This is typically not a problem, cause we have a bot that has op status and just sits in the room keeping open for any members that want to chat, but occasionally IRC will hiccup and the bot will get knocked out of it's op status to a guest.

To learn more about how to register your nick with IRC, type /ns register and it should give you instructions on how to register your nick.

Yes, but, if you want to use your nickname that is on this forum, the chance is, that someone may have it already on the IRC network and you are SOL. One of the solutions, and I believe that FF could set it up on his end, is, a stand alone chat room designated for AA and not dependent on other resources for chat.

Right, I have looked into this brefily but dont feel overly confident with the security of the IRC server to run it on my home system.

agreed, I just thought maybe it would be another avenue. The IRC thing has always been a threat to some degree..I remember when it was the highlight of all things Internet..now it is a good way to lose your machine to somebody who has no respect for others property.
