1 sunshine peacock
1 eureka peacock
1 yellow lab
1 blue dolphin
2 red zebra
1 yellow blaze
1 hybrid (yellow lab mix?)
1 comprecissep
1 elongatis
1 julidochromis transcripts
1 rainbow shark

This is what I have in my 55g. The largest fist is the yellow lab, it's about 2". Everything else is smaller. Anywhere from 1-2". Except the rainbow shark.... It's closer to 3"

My question(s) are...

Am I over stocked? As these fish mature will I need to thin the tank out?

I'm also interested in having a regional tank? I know the shark is an asain species... But are the rest of the fish all Malawi? I like the idea of having a Malawi or victorian (i forget the 3rd big lake) setup but I haven't had much luck learning which lake these guys are from?

I'm also interested in loosing a few fish in order to get a school or group of the same species... And recommendations for a bright...schooling cichlid that isn't super hard to care for?

I know there are a few questions here, but any info will be appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: I don't know that "schooling" is the eat word. I'm just looking to house a couple of the same species...

"eat word" - gotta love auto correct.

"best word" was the intention... Haha

Way overstocked some of those fish shouldn't be in that size tank IE Blue Dolphin and compressiceps. They get way too big for a 55.Your mixing several different types of fish.Haps,Peacocks and Mbuna. Its not a good idea.In my experience this only leads to death in the long run.Personally I would pick a type Mbuna,Peacock or hap.Your Choice but that's my advice.

Yeah I kinda figured I would have to decide within the next month or two. I'm kind of partial to peacock cichlids. In a 55 what would be a nice mix of peacocks?

Is there a smaller version of the comprisseps? I was told it would stay a nice size for a 55g (whatever that means) at this point it is the smallest fish in the tank. Maybe an inch long, if that, so I'll keep him around for now.

I've never really been into Peacocks much always preferred Mbuna and big Haps (Compressiceps was my Favourite)
However if I were to do a Peacock tank I would probably do Sunshine peacocks,German Reds,Strawberry peacocks,Red finned Boreyli that kind of mix.

These pics are of my 55g.

At some point in the next few months I will be returning some of these and thinning the tank depending on how my current stock settles in.

The plants were just tied to the drift wood. If they can't handle the cichlids they will be placed in my dads community tank.
