Blue Rams will also do well and breed in a 10g. Kribs are great too.

I agree with loganj. Rams and Kribs are great beginner cichlids. But there is a catch. (Did you really think there wouldn't be ). You can't keep these two together. Kribs are African cichlids and Rams are S. American cichlids. The two species together are not compatible.

Actually, kribensis are one of the riverine species from West Africa and their natural habitats are similar to that of the rams, although not quite as soft and acidic as the Amazon. Kribs need a pH level in the 6.8 - 7.2 range to ensure an even ratio of male/female offspring. These fish can be kept together, but only if the aquarium is large enough to allow for parental territories during spawning, and a ten gallon tank is nowhere near that.
