I have had my tank running for 9 months with no problems but my nitrate has suddenly gone through the roof the tank is a 55g with 15 fish in. 3 of them are around 6 inch the rest are 3 inch or smaller. I normally do a 40% water change a week and have no problem. What should I do? Is it just a case of do lots of smaller water changes or can I be doing something else to help. Fyi I have 2 external filters running at 2000 lph and have not added any fish for around 4 months

Have you slacked on changes ? I'd do daily water changes until the number gets under control.

No not at all but I will do a daily one until it's under control

Did you replace the filter media? Rinse media in tap water? Did you do any major rearranging of decor? Forget water conditioner?
