Air stones with discus

I have read that it's not a good idea to have air stones with discus. Have I been misinformed?

I don't think it would really bother them, my sponge filters never did.

I've never heard of this and would quite honestly disagree as many Discus keepers use air driven sponge filters. As well, since they like the warmer water it's needed for oxygenation in the event you're using a canister with a submerged outlet or hob that's even with the water line.
