I've got some really bad brown algae growing on my rocks and plants. Any idea on how to get rid of it or prevent more from growing?

I had the same thing and it went way on its own. You could do a water change and rub it off with your fingers but it will probably come back. Not uncommon at all in newer setups.

I had it all over my Cichlid stones and rocks.

Using a phosphate remover in your filter will speed the process. Diatoms are mostly caused by silicates in the water. Phosphate removers also remove silicates. If your tank is planted I would just let it run it course since plants need some phosphate.
