Algaefix

Why in the world is this stuff still on the shelves? I made a mistake about 3 weeks ago. I know that any chemicals should not be added to any fishtank. I noticed a dew rocks and some of the coral substrate in my 46 gallon mbuna set up, had a slight green-brown, tinge too it. I decided to try algaefix. I used the correct dosage , implied on the label. An hour later , all 6 of the cichlids,, 3 yellow labs, and 3 elongatus likoma, were all at the bottom of the tank, looking like they were drugged really badly. Made a huge water change, and made another the next morning,, I continued with partial water changes throughout the week! Also changed the carbon in the fluval. Lost 3 fish, and the others have bounced back, 100%. my mistake for using a product that has been banned in some places, and is known to cause cancer! So tell me why is this stuff still on the shelves! ?? Just sayin?? Sorry for the very long post!! Tommy from new York!!!

I use it every other week for over two years. I cant say i ever connected it to a fish acting strange or dying. My better half refuses to keep the blinds closed so I have algae problems. It works well. Is it that bad? I will look up stuff RIGHT NOW!

No doubt, it eliminates the algae. It specifically says on the lable that it won't harm fish .. And it did and does! Go to the Internet , and look up problems with algaefix!! Couldn't believe all the messed up comments!

Well I just read a few things. It is used in pool and spa chemicals. So everyone is swimming in this too.

poly oxyethylene dimethyliminio ethylene dimethyliminio ethylene dichloride is the chemical in it. pesticide.org says for fish it is under the "mortality" label.
