Angel fish tank builds and compatibility

So there was an article on this in TFH this month by Jack Wattley in response to a reader's letter. The reader wanted to know if angels could go with discus and his response was:

"... for several reasons, I don't consider angelfish to be very good tankmates with discus. Many successful angelfish breeders maintain water temperature much too low for discus. Another point is that as angelfish mature they can become very aggressive towards discus if kept together"

So I understaned the water conditions optimal for angelfish don't necessarily match up with most discus perfectly, but agression? Most discus are semi as well? I would think proper tank size would help alleviate this problem. If this is such a problem with angels, wouldn't they be too agressive to keep with anything let alone discus?

Well, according to this, angelfish are compatible with each other as well, and we know that's not always the case.

It would appear that it's case specific; just be sure they have enough room for each to 'call their own' and don't overstock the angel pop (10 gal or so per, iirc) and you should be fine.

It would probably help to have a QT ready just in case you need to separate them. . .

Yeah I have a 20g QT ready for that. I've read that you should either have 2 angels or more than 4 because if they "pair" off they can be very aggressive towards one another. From reading the stories on this forum, I'm freaked out about angels.

I'm planning a single for my 30long; if I want more, I'll have to get a bigger tank. I'd love to have a group of 5 or 6 and just hope they didn't spawn. . .
