I'm thinking of starting a 20 gallon Tanganyika tank. If you have any tips and any recommended fish please tell me.

They start off as black with white spots, and turn to some magnificent colors.

This is what he's working with

Duboisi Cichlid - Tropheus duboisi

This will not work with that tank.

I'd go for a pair of Julidochromis dickfeldi, Telmatochromis vittatus, or Neolamprologus leleupi would work. If your brave you could add a few shells and toss in a few shellies too.

I did not catch the 20 gallon bit in my haste to respond. I apologize. Def not in a 20 gal tank. I personally would not keep any kind of cichlid in a tank less than 36 gallons if that. I believe these fish need room to swim and escape any hardships.

Actually I'm thinking of keeping some multi's because its such a small tank

+1. Tropheus do best in groups and at 4"-5" average
get too large and aggressive for a 20 long.

+1. Any of the smaller Neolamprologus would work as a pair; N. buescheri, N. caudopunctatus, N. cylindricus, N. leleupi, etc.
