I'm setting up my first African cichlid tank, a 125. Just wondering what the best rocks would be to include in the set up. I really like the look of TX holey rock, but I can't find any near me.

Lace rock is also very good. I have had very good luck with smooth river stones from a landscape supply store near me. I live in jefferson so thats not far from UGA. Its way cheaper then lace rock. Aquarium outfitters in Athens carries lacerock. Its on old epps bridge. Check this thread, you can see what my rocks look like. I tested them all with vinager before I put them in. I use dead liverock in my sump for buffering so I didnt want my deco rock to have much buffering properties

Holy rock is perfect, I have it in my Oscar tank and it provides plenty of spots to hide

Almost any rock will work really, just depends on what look you are going for. Some rocks will buffer your Ph but with African cichlids that's not a big deal. I use "Blueberry" Basalt in my tanks it's about 18-23 cents a pound at most landscaping places.

If you like holey rock, you might like base rock for sw tanks. It's aragonite based rock, which will buffer the pH somewhat, but only to about 7.8 or 8. You can get 50lbs shipped for $85 from reefrocks.net. You'd probably need 150-200lbs for a 125. I just had regular old creek rock in my 150 when I kept mbuna. It was free.
