I knew Severum mama would pipe in on this thread.
Like it has been said before, not all bp's are dyed. It's a common misconception. Most people (that actually know bout dyed fish) think that all bp's are injected, but the red/orange and yellow ones aren't. I really don't understand the appeal of injected parrots. I've seen them at the
lfs as juvenile's that were injected blue and purple and they looked gorgeous, BUT, then I have seen the ones that lost their color, and they aren't as attractive.
My parrots were also my first cichlid and I wouldn't give them up for anything in the world. Not even a 500
gal tank complete with all the goodies. I have a couple pics in my gallery of ours. They have great personalities and will eat out of your hand.
Quick note, the span that it takes for bp's to grow from baby to adult is a couple of years. The babies that I bought a couple months ago, the woman said that it would take probably 3 years for them to reach their peak. I'm not sure how reliable that info is, BUT, I have noticed that the parrots that we bought a year ago are still growing at a slow rate.
