Hi everyone

just recently our female Blue Acara cichlid has been behaving strangely.

Originally we purchased a breeding pair a male & female blue acara and they got on together really well, but after 6 weeks the male died from an unknown cause which left the Female alone and after advice at our local aquarium we opted to not find her another partner, she has now been alone for over 7 months.

Her tank mates are 5 long fin Zebra Danios, 4 Head & tailight Tetra, 4 Buenos Aires Tetras and 3 Albino Corydoras Catfish, 3 Otocinclus

She is always a very happy fish and is never aggressive towards her tank mates, she is a bit bossy when it comes to feeding time but that’s about it.

Our tank is a Juwel Lido 120, with the standard bioflow 3.0 and a Tetra Tec Ex600 external canister filter, air stone.

All the chemical tests seem fine... and I also have a digital seneye which also says everything is fine

0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrite, 10 Nitrate
Tank has been fully cycled for over 10 months
PH 7.68

Temp 25.6c

About 7 days ago we thought she was behaving rather strange, laying on the bottom and resting, swimming erratically with a slightly sinking pattern and then retreating to her half a coconut cave and spending most of the time hiding in it and laying on the gravel inside.

3 days ago we found some white eggs that had been deposited over our Juwel digital thermometer at the bottom of the tank.

We have counted about 20 eggs but couldnt find many more.

She has now turned very white in colour (normally she is a blue/grey )

She is still feeding on her normal 1 a day feed of rift lake green cichlid pellets & Spirulina Flakes (but we have noted she is not as ravenous as normal)

She is still swimming strange and spending 90% of the day in her Coconut cave.

We are starting to get concerned now for her well-being.

Any advice would be much appericated.
