Breeding Pair spilt up?

I have 2 convict's ( breeding pair) and I want to make their tank a community tank, but was worried if I split them up, would they get depressed and die? They are in a 30 gallon, and one will be moving to my friend's place in a 100 gallon or a 60 gallon.
