Can I add rams ?

Well, 10 more days till the ich treatment is done. I'm starting to think about what else I should add to my 29 gallon tank. I'm thinking of rams, assuming I can find them.

29Gallon. Occupants: 4 small platies, 1 dwarf platy, 4 panda cories, 6 neon tetras.

Can I add 4 rams to this ?

Is it planted? They won't thrive if it's not, IME.

Maybe a gourami, betta, or pleco that doesn't get too big?

Thanks Rok. I'm not crazy about gouramis (had a meany Pearl once - she was just NASTY to everyone so now I'm prejudiced LOL). I'd rather have snails than a pleco (am I weird ?? LOL). But I may consider another betta - the first one met an untimely demise inside a hollow ornament - the oranments are stuffed now (and will be replaced by my own ceramic creation soon). I'm also considering guppies (read post: slow moving, peaceful and colorful). I still have a week before I can bring the tank temps down (ich treatment) so I have some time to research and decide.

Are honey (Trichogaster chuna), sparkling (Trichopsis pumila), or croaking (Trichopsis vittata) gouramis available to you? These all stay pretty small and are very peaceful.
You could get snails.

Rok, thanks for the suggestions - you're so kind to me. I've seen honeys but not the others. Lonewolf is gonna be impressed tho - now I'm thinking about a way to add live plants to the tank ! I just love the way a planted tank looks.

I just posted in the planted tank forum with my thoughts

Thanks again

I've kept rams many times in non-planted tanks with no trouble. Granted, the tanks have had a few plants, along with various other tank decorations to provide breeding sites and protection-- but I definitely wouldn't go so far as to call the tank "planted". From my experience, the key to keeping rams is maintaining excellent water quality.

I'd wait a few weeks to make sure your ich troubles are gone, but I see no reason why you couldn't add rams to your tank, providing you stay on top of your water changes.

Thanks Voodoo; I'm planning on building my own ceramic cave / rock wall thingy to provide additional hiding places and territories. I'm also thinking along the lines of live plants. I can see how addictive this hobby can become - and QUICKLY ! LOL
