This is just a question for future reference but I wanted to know if you could keep a bigger cichlid ( like a jack Dempsey, Texas, ect.) alone in a 40 gallon tank. If not what would be the biggest cichlid you could put in a tank that size? Thanks.

A JD would be fine, seeing as most don't get above 10". Also, a green terror would work since they average 10". You are talking about a 40g (48x12x16)?

Also a green texas (Herichthys carpintis) would work since they average around 8"

I agree, I have them my self, and they grow slowly. If they getting bigger, I will upgrade my tank, I have them in a 55g tank.
