Mbuna need alot of rockwork in their tank anyways....so yes, you should have hiding places. Rocks would be the best thing. Auratus are mean fish, so the pleco may not be safe....or they could leave him alone. Hard to say.
 
Your pleco will likely be fine. I had a red-tailed shark and yo-yos as well as a rubber lip pleco in with my Auratus . I grew the Auratus out from a juvenile and I will say that once my male reached maturity it was the meanest fish in the tank, but it didn't bother my bottom dwellers. I'm sure that's not a blanket statement as every fish is different, but mine were all fine.
