Can a kenyi cichlid crossbreed with a blue hap ahli I found a three month old baby in the filter it must have been there since it was fry. But the kenyi was the only one with eggs and the baby looks like an ahli and has his dorsal fin spotted like the female kenyi so what is it??????

I don't have a definitive answer to this question but since nobody else has responded I would just say that it amazes me what mbuna's will cross with. I have seen things cross that I would never have thought possible.

Well they are both mouth brooders, so I don't see why it couldn't happen. However, what are the other males in the tank? It seems odd to me for an ahli to breed with a mbuna species

Another ahli and a kenyi are the only mature ones

Adult sized doesn't mean mature always. Mbuna breed quite earl, like 2-3"

I also have a Johanni I do have a Female ahli but the baby has dots on its dorsal and tale find and the baby haps at the store don't, but the mother and all Kenyi fry from her 2int Bach do which is why I think it is a cross
