There are some cichlids that can go in a 10g tank.

I have done multies in a 10g. It is not ideal, but possible.

A pair of most Apisto's will work in a 10g tank. A pair of Apistogramma borellii is a great choice for a 10g.

Thanks, is there any way I could do a colony of any kinds of shell-dwellers?

In a 10 they will kill anything else. That is why I said 2 or 3 max. Vicious little guys.

In a heartbeat if they go anywhere near the colony. They will stack a fish 3 times their size if it threatens them.

Not to mention they require very specific water parameters, not sure they guppys would tolerate.. why not start with a pair of apisto cacs?

Yep, a species only tank at that size for multies.

In my experience if you start with a small group they will tolerate each other even as the colony grows. But if you try to add individuals from another colony they will shred them.

My ph in my tap water is in the 8.0 - 8.2 range, is that good for the cichlids?

Ok, that is the ph of all my tanks, and that's cool about the colonies thing
