Question cichlids in a 55g?

hi,
i was wandering if you could put cichlids in a 55g i was thinking like 3-5 of them not sure. thanks in advance, also could i mix some of the other fish i have in with cichlids to take some of the load off my 10 and 29g because it looks like they are way overstocked.

There are so many different cichlids that its almost impossible to answer your question.

But yes you can do cichlids in a 55G, normally you need to get the same lake fish in there as water parameters and habitat is different. There are a few that are OK in a community but it depends

yes there are thousands or different species of cichlids.

Heres some info:
http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums...ank-88645.html
Cookie Cutter - 55-gallons

Heres good places to look at info of different cichlids:
Cichlids - central and south American, Malawi, Tanganyikan and others
Aquariumlife.net Fish Profiles Database

Most prefer a cannister filter for larger tanks. I Just set up a 55G and got a great deal on a new Fluval 304 on Ebay for $67 shipped to my house(they have more left). Otherwise A solid AC filter like a 70 or 110 or maybe 2x AC50's would work.

Actaully, you need to cram the tank, if your getting african cichlids. They can be very agressive ( if they are from Lake Malawi) and the more there are, the less agression.

Overstocking the tank somewhat can help reduce aggression but depending on the africans, it isn't a necessity. Aulonocara are not that aggressive and with plenty of rocks do not need to be overstocked. With mbuna, many people find it better to overstock to some degree.
