Hi guys, I'm picking up some coral rocks soon and thinking of putting them in my Malawi tank.

Has anyone used them before? Do they buffer ph? Are they safe to use? They are not live rocks and have been dried for a while.

Any advice is appreciated.

I have not personally used them, but I do know for a fact that they are known and used for dramatically raising the pH to make the pH adequate for fish, E.G. Malawi tanks

Thanks. They were previously used in a marine tank.
Not sure if I could put them all in my 4ft tank at one go, they are about 15-20kg. I'm afraid that they would raise the ph dramatically thus harming the fish.
Anyone able to advise?

I have crushed coral in all 3 cichlid tanks and large pieces in my one peacock tank. No issues and keeps the ph high like I want it.

Yes, what is your current pH? That would help to decide.

My current ph is around 7.8. I'll soak them in water first and test if they increase ph dramatically.

Would prefer Texas holey rock but they are quite expensive.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I put the rock in.
Just thought I'd share the photos.
Please feel free to comment.

Sorry for the low resolution. Taken from phone.
