Cycling a cichlid tank

I just set up my new 40 gallon tank. The ph is around 8-8.2. Does anyone know any fish I could add becuase I'm planning on having a fish cycle apparently that works better. So does anyone know any fish that arnt cichlid(don't want to loose any cichlid straight away as they are quite expensive) that I could put in there?? I was thinking guppies???

And also ill be adding a wave,Akers because the filters I have now don't create much water movement, how many gallons or litres per hour should it spit out for a 40 gallon
