Wondering what filter media you guys use for accidental ammonia or nitrates spikes?
Cycling my 55 gallon and getting ready but worry about losing great looking Africans so I would like to find out what to use.

There should never be accidental ammonia spikes. There is no filter media that will guard against that that you really need to run. So long as you do regular maintenance, you'll be fine once the tank is cycled.

thanks just i had my koi anglefish tank go through a rough patch after almost two years running with regular maintenance weekly and to make a long story short I am still sorting the spike out it but that has gravel and this one has cichlid sand mix so no nitrate bed gravel nigtmare .
Guess I am just paranoid.
