Would 2 Marineland Emperor 400 be sufficient to filter a 55 gallon cichlid tank? I'm currently doing a fishless cycling on the one that I had from before, and I've been contemplating in getting a canister filter, but the Emperor 400 is a steal for 40 bucks (I paid 80 for mine a year ago).

Thanks!

2 of them should be more than sufficient. I went looking at them, rated at 80g each. You figure they probably really only push 50-60g each (most manufacturers beef up the ratings) so that's still 100-120g.

You can never over filter in my opinion.

I have a 20g long tank that has a UGF, sponge filter rated for 30g and 2 rapids mini canister filters. So yeah, I'm all for more filtration. :)

Thanks, I didn't know if I needed a canister filter for an cichlids tank. I went to the pet store, and I came back home with 5 Rasboras for the 10 gallon tank. The Emperor 400 was 75 bucks, but I saw it online for like $38 or so, what a difference!
