Hey all, I recently bought 9 convict cichlids, 1 breeding pair and 7 babies. I have a 55gal. They've been in there about a week, yesterday I cleaned the gravel, changed a bit of the water and rearranged the decorations. I noticed that (only) my male has been flashing quite a bit, as well as scratching against rocks and a bit of the decorations. I've treated the nitrate/nitrite levels, upped the heat and added some salt. I don't see any sings of ich and he otherwise looks healthy. What is going on here??

As far as the flashing fish do that when something is irritating their skin, this could be meds, rapid PH swings, parasites, or poor water conditions like high nitrates. How are you testing your water and what are your current conditions? Please add details like ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels, but if this happens after a water change a PH swing is the most likely culprit.
