Cichlid pair laid eggs three days ago. Eggs looked good parents were protecting them well. Woke up this morning and all was gone and the nest abandoned by the parents. I know there were fry cause my Texas cichlids were all over the nest and digging throughout the gravel for more food. Was told convicts would be able to protect their babies. DisaPpointed.

Was it their first set? They are great parents but it takes a few times for their Maturnal instincts to kick in.. Other wise the eggs may have not been fertile, in that case they will eat them.

I've had my convicts just over a week and they have free swimming fry already. They are about an inch and a half long.Very good parents indeed.Fascinating to see them moving the fry about constantly. They fend off a 6" synodontis with no problems.

Mine are ducky parents. Either they can't fend off tank mates or they eat their own fry.
