I'm looking in to breeding gbrs. I heard they are very fragile. Is this true. I do 25% weekly water changes and don't buffer pH.

Many of the rams that are available at pet stores are mass-produced and weak. It can be difficult to find good quality rams. Your best bet would be trying to source a local breeder or club. You might be able to find a seller on Aquabid that would ship to Canada.

I wouldn't recommend breeding them either. They are horrible parents and experienced breeders often have trouble getting fry to survive to adulthood. I know at least one person that stopped breeding them altogether because they were such a pain.

If you're not absolutely set on rams, you might look at breeding Apistogramma cacatuoides instead. Similar size/disposition, but much hardier and easier to breed/rear.
