Will a pair of red jewel cichlids and a pair of black convicts do okay together in a 55? Or should I buy a divider.

I'd have a divider on stand by if they're both proven pairs, they both can be hard on tankmates when guarding fry. I'd arrange the tank so there are two spawning sites on each side of the tank with a clear open swimming area in the middle, this will allow each pair to take a territory to defend and insert the divider if need be.

I think it will kick off big time, especially if they're close to full size.
