I was at a fish farm not too long ago, and the owner gave me this fish for free. He never told me what it was, and he was so chatty that I never got around to asking him lol.

Thanks! Oh and I think that the owner's just a really generous guy, to the point that I almost wonder how he makes any money, because on another trip he gave me this adult Borleyi for free =D

Btw that picture of him was taken in my quarantine.

It does look like some kind of Aulocanara hybrid. I don't see where it looks at all like a Venustus other than a blue head. I would guess it's a Red Shoulder hybrid. It's beautiful though.

The blotching on the body has melded into peacock stripes.... and the body colour is venustus... That's what I think anyway.

But the kadando red is a stunner. He was probably fiddling around with the breeding males, too many males are just mouths to feed if they are not being used to breed.

Yea, I could see where you're coming from with that, but I don't think there's any easy way to ever figure it out. Either way, I couldn't be happier with the fish (both of them), and Aulonocara Hybrid is a perfectly sufficient answer for me. Thank you everyone!

Alright guys, got another fish that you could hopefully ID for me. I picked him up off a seller on craigslist. He told me it was some kind of peacock but he wasn't sure which one.

Anyone have any idea?

Thanks! I kind of get the feeling that he's a hybrid, but that's just fine for me. I don't breed them.

Looks like a cross between my red empress and my peacock. Def. looks malawi

Thanks! Yea without a doubt it's some sort of Malawi Hap, probably some sort of Aulonocara hybrid. If anyone else thinks they know what it is feel free to chime in!

Alright, sorry about asking for so many different ID's, but I just didn't want to start a whole bunch of new threads.

I helped a friend of mine set up the rocks in his new 150 gal Malawi Hap and Peacock community tank, and there was one fish in there which he has never been able to ID. I told him about this forum and he asked me to see if you guys could ID it for him.

Anyone have any ideas what it is? Sorry about the slight bluriness in the photos, while I was there he was constantly moving.

Well, anyone have any ideas on that last one at all? My friend told me he checked a whole bunch of profiles on cichlid-forum.com and he couldn't fine any that looked similar.
