I have a buttload of cichlid and maybe want to try other type of aggressive fish... a family of fish as aggressive and diverse?

As diverse? No. As aggressive, well depends on what species you're talking about...some cichlids are incredibly peaceful, some are homicidal maniacs.

Sunfish from North America (like bass, pumpkinseed, bluegill, etc,) are very territorial, and a large native US tank can look very cool, if done correctly

Banded sunfish only get 3-4 inches

Most are gonna hit the 9-10" mark, but require larger ham expected tank for multiple individuals. They are quite territorial, generally speaking, especially when spawning. Many species create large "bowers" (for lack of a better term), basically large nests

Serrasalmus Rhom. Or elongates Rhom. Would be my pick for closest to all though I don't think they would be as smart or personable as a cichlid. They have all the attitude though. (Well most, so are just shy)
