Is this Normal Behavior?

I recently bought to juvenile, female German Blue Rams and they have been constantly fighting!

They both would curl up against eachother in like an S shape and peck at each other. The smaller ram is the instigator each time too. I'm thinking they are ready to mate and kinda taking it out on eachother?

These rams are suppose to me very peaceful arent' they? Regardless, I have seperated the two.

Tank size? Do you have a lot of plants in the tank? Do you have multiple places for them to hide? Has the tank been established long?

Each of them are a little less then an inch long and I have them currenlty in a 6 gallon holding tank until I get my 26 gallon long tank up tomorrow.

They are the only occupants. Live plants, cave, clay pot. Tank has been up and running for over 1.5 years.

I just moved the more aggressive one to my 45 gallon community tank and she is happy as a clam.

I realize the 6 gallon is way too small for everything but a single betta, but it was only a temporay situation and since I thought they were pretty peaceful fish, I thought it would be ok. Ooooops, my mistake.

They should be fine once you get them into the bigger tank. Rams need personal space and like to pick on each other if they do not have it
