Just set up a Tanganyikan tank! Very excited....
I made a post a few days ago about my new frontosa acquisition.....I ended up getting a little antsy about what I was going to do with him so I decided to gut my 50 gal and turn it into a full Tanganyikan setup! I traded in my old stock, bought about 70 pounds of slate and lace rock and now I'm stocked with:
1 Lepidiolamprologus Nkambae 2 Wild Caught Altolamprologus calvus (these guys hurt my wallet) 1 Cyphotilapia frontosa 1 Orange Leleupi 1 YoYo Botia Loach Three trips to two different fish stores, $250, and several hours of redecorating later, I must say I'm pretty satisfied. So far, everyone is getting along extremely well and appetites are in full throttle. I realize the frontosa's potential, but he's just a baby right now. I think I'm going to leave my stock where it is right now and see how everyone settles in. I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow. |

Good deal!
I love the Tang cichlids, especially the shell dwelling species. I'm planning a 55 gallon Tang community; already got a colony of N. multifasciatus for it, but I'm having a hard time narrowing down the rest of the list. Too many species I want! The calvus are great fish, even if they are some of the slowest growing fish I've ever seen. You'll enjoy 'em!

My Nkambae and Leleupi aren't the brightest fish around when it comes to feeding time. They haven't figured out how to eat from the top yet and I have to sink the food so they have a chance to eat. My yoyo botia is kind of a spaz too. He's really big....the largest fish in the tank right now. Anyone have any experience feeding yoyo's? I got him to suck up the left over sinking pellets that get missed and to work down my snail problem. |

Sounds great but waiting for pics is kinda hard.
Feed your yoyo's flake food, algae wafers, some veggies and fruits. Mine aren't picky.

Tanganyikan tank updated with pics!!
My camera is kind of crappy so excuse the quality.... The algae on the back shows up pretty bad, I'm working on that.

WOW - I love it love it love it !!!
Its exactly the sort of set up I want someday - I just need to get my confidence up a bit before I tackle cichlids. I already have the "secret stash of cash" for the expense LOL
