Aquarium Advice Addict
Two months ago I visited the lfs and found a beautiful black African Cichlid with white trim on its fins and tail. We didn't get it at the time because I wanted to research it first. SOMETIMES I follow my own advice and research first. After some searching I find that it is an Acei Ngara. They are very rare to find in this area. Two weeks ago we went back to the same lfs and the fish was still in the tank. We continue to look around and came back to the tank about 30 minutes later with an employee. He took off the top of the tank and stuck in the net. He started searching for it and couldn't find it. He took out every rock and piece of decor in there, trying to find it. I think he thought we were dilusional. Eventually we just gave up and left.
Today we went back to the lfs to get some NLS food and browsed by the same tank. WALAH! There it was. I just figured that maybe someone bought it the same time we were there before and had returned it. James ran and got an employee while I kept my eye on the fish. The guy puts the net in and the fish darts into the rock structure. So again he proceeds to take out all the rocks and decor. This fish is NOWHERE to be found. All of a sudden I see something move in the gravel. The employee starts to shift around the gravel and lo and behold, there it is. It burrows! So after about 10 minutes of constant chasing and burrowing, he gets it into the net.
His scales are scraped up pretty bad from the sharp gravel in the tank. He is currently in QT for the next two weeks to observe his behavior and to make sure he doesn't get an infection from the scratches. He was pretty stressed when I took the pics. It was a 2 1/2 hour car ride home from the lfs. I'll take some more pics maybe tomorrow after he calms down.
