Male, no spangling on the lower jaw is a pretty good way to tell. Also know that the minimum tank size for a pair of roccio octofasciata (jack dempsey) is a 55, with a 75 being MUCH better. That's without tank mates too

The male will have those dots around his face the female will have blue blotches instead of the dots
