Mbuna food brand?

Hi, I wondered what brands of food people use for their mbuna cichlids? So, I know to try out the best recommended!

I use New Life Spectrum exclusively for manufactured foods. I also feed peas and zuc though.

LOL. I looked at the poll choices before scrolling down and I thought to myself "where is the New Life Spectrum choice." LOL. I don't have this type of fish but that is what I would feed them if I did. Looks like it is a pretty popular choice.

Wow, NLS sounds popular. I only added the (very few!) brands I'd heard of and been recommended in my LFS. Who I don't really trust so much these days after a few terrible terrible mistakes (they think fishless cycling with prawns doesn't work and is anathema, apparently O.o).

I checked up on the NLS. It seems to have a high krill and protein content. For mbunas which are vegetarians (and malawis at that) isn't this a 'bad thing'? I thought there'd be a risk of malawi bloat with foods like that?

So far I have Tetra doramin (which I know is for carniverous fish...again...there's my LFS for you...), and I'm feeding cucumber/zucchini which they have yet to realise is food, and also for the time being some Tetramin flake food. I have some spirulina flake food on order, and also some Tetra Pro Vegetable coming.

Do NLS do a purely veggie version?

NLS has 19 different types of food. Check out their site for a complete listing. I've been feeding NLS exclusively to my Africans for over a year and a half and have never had Malawi Bloat in any of the fish. I used the last of the food on Friday so I'm out of the NLS ATM, going to get some today, so I can't comment on the krill and protein content since I can't find a listing online.

Edit: I just did another search and found this article. It is an interesting read.
