misspelled, mispronounced, my bad

Okay. I'm terribly embarrassed.

I've been misspelling cichlid as chilchid. My misspelling has also led to a phonetic mispronunciation. Therefore all of my correspondence has led to confusion and telltale ignorance thus far. I apologize. I hope to do better in the future.

That's ok Half the time when I say cichlid it still pops out as chick-lid, instead of sick-lid and I don't know why!

I was definately guilty of spelling/pronouncing it chiclid until I actually got one and started googling the word often enough to see the correct way.

Well, pronounciation and spelling of fish stuffs are almost always done wrong at least once in every aquarium hobbiests lifetime. No need to appologize at all as it happens to everyone. No one is perfect!

You have lots of company - cichlid and betta are the two most mispronounced words in the hobby!

you know I was just talking with a couple people about the pronunciation of cichlid and betta today. I think a lot of people pronounce it Chick-lid at first...I know I had no idea how to pronounce it at first.

A problem I run into is discussing bettas and badis--they are different "on paper" but verbally mess people up. dax29, you are in good company
