Well i got my tank back a few weeks ago (finally) and i'm not happy.
Half my fish have died or been given away, and 80% of my rocks have mysteriously disappeared.
Nothing has bred for over 6 months, and they are skinny and neglected.
I have another small pile of rocks about the same size left.... if you have seen what my tank used to look like you will know why I am upset.

The good news is most of my favourites (dimi compressiceps) have survived the ordeal.. Now I am working on conditioning them all back up to proper health..
The lesson here is NEVER EVER trust anyone else to look after your tank.
Whats left:

Dimi comps,
maingano
1 yellow
3 bristlenose
latifasciata
acei
1 blue dolphin
Here it sits currently.. Time to start again *sigh*

Can I see a photo of your old tank, if you don't mind? I don't really know the story behind it, but sorry to hear about what happened.

I know i've seen a picture of the tank before this incident. But I am interested in the story behind the mess as well.

Here is part of the story that was posted awhile back:

Thanks rkilling.

What a shame, that tank was beautiful.

What kind of rock is that by the way?

That totally sucks. I am so sorry that your tank was reduced to such a unkepmpt and uncared for tank. It's a shame.

Thanks once again for the kind words.
Once again I can rely on you guys to be supportive and re-assuring. :)
Some good news is setting up a new tank is half the fun..
More good news is I have the coolest bit of driftwood kindly donated by a very good friend.
Marconis, it's just limestone.. Keeps the water perfect for africans..

The short story...
I've been working on the mines since January.
In the meantime my now ex-fiance decided I wasn't the right person for her. I've just landed a new job back in town and am picking myself up again. The fish are the only thing I have left and I had to fight to get them back.

Some pics as of yesterday.. Their colours are starting to come back slowly..

That is looking incredible! The fish are really perking up again. Thank goodness you got to them in time. The driftwood looks great.

I'm terribly sorry about your ex-fiance.

great job so far on the tank! and you are right about the fun in the "setting up" part.
the male dimidio looks gorgeous....man, i want a malawi tank now....

I understand a relationship not working out, but to neglect/mistreat living things is really low.

I'm glad you got them back and they're starting to fill out again and get their color. What a blow for you to come back to-I'm so sorry for everything that happened while you were gone.

It's all good. Life throws blows at you all the time, but you can only keep you chin up and head held high. :)

Triazole, this is what that male dimi should look like...
And heres a quick pick of when the tank was "perfectly balanced".

Water is starting to clear up :)
It's one of those times where you have no choice but to cycle with fish.
