Very healthy boy Rivulatus. I keep two GT's, one is 5 y.o.the other is about 5 months old. Their bad reputations are undeserved. Both mine are in community tanks. Looks like yours lives in a nice spacious tank.

This guy is a solid 8". Really a good natured fish if that's possible. He is the tank boss, keeping a small group of red terrors and some African cichlids in check. He did kill a full grown Jack Dempsey that he grew up with recently. The JD constantly provoked the GT until he finally had enough. I bought a second GT. I think it is a male. A little too early to tell for sure.

Very handsome, but for 5 yo isn't he small? Mines pushing 6.5" and is only a bit over a year old

I think he has maxed out. He is very thick and proportions look good. I hope he doesn't grow anymore. A 120 gal. Is probably all my wife will go for. Don't believe everything you read about max sizes of fish. Before I bought my red terrors all my research showed max sizes
20" male, 13" female. Too aggressive for community tanks. I held off buying until I discovered a thread from an actual scientist who had done field work in Ecudor studying the Red Terror. His research showed the avg. Wild RT. is 9" long. In short I bought a group of them, found them less aggressive than convicts. Here is a shot of the GT with my largest female RT.

Yeah it seems your boy has maxed out which if your happy with him that's great and nothing else matters. Hopefully he lives a long and happy life with you.

I would really like a larger gt. Hopefully he reaches a minimum 10" but I am really aiming for 12" as the goal.

Only time will tell

If I recall, the average size for RIvulatus In an aquarium is 6" - 8" inches. But if you give him enough room maybe 10" plus. He sure has a good start. It's amazing that GT's aren't more popular. They look as good or better than most sea fish and they are not expensive. I think mine were about $5 each. Good luck.

I bet. I would love to have a big tank to play with some South Americans

Craigslist or black Friday sale at Petsmart. My 120 gal & stand was $300 new W/warranty. I keep a small group of convicts cichlids and an electric blue Jack dempsey in a 29 gal. They have been together for years. You don't need a huge tank. There are a lot of small South americans suitable for a smaller tank.

A 75g or a 90g could work.for a solo wetpet as long as they don't get much bigger than 12" or so.

For me the issue would be divorce proceedings. I am told a "different house" might help. We will see. I love what I have, mts is real

Beautiful! I love their look, what's the minimum tank size for them? Could I keep one in a community 36g bowfront?

The RIvulatus Green Terror averages 6"-8" in an aquarium, but has the potential to be 10". Your 36 gal. Would work for a year maybe two but would eventually be too small. My 8" GT spent the first few years of his life in a 65 gal. Community tank with a Jack Dempsy, Bolivian rams, Odessa barbs and a list of others and did just fine. Be sure to start with a juvenile. They are easy to raise and a very active fun fish to watch.

My GT is just over a year old. I got him at 2.5" in oct 2016 and he is now a solid 6" pushing 7" soon. So keep this in mind.

An adult gt would be good solo in a 75g or larger imo. I would not go any smaller though.
