New aquarium rocks

I just bought a couple pieces of slate from my LFS, do I red to wash or soak them in anything before adding to an established tank.

Yes. Don't ever add anything to your tank without cleaning and sterilizing, no matter where you get it. For stone, all you need to do is brush off loose debris, then put them in a large pot with only water, and boil them for a couple minutes. Of they won't fit in a pot, boil water and use a clean, new paint brush to wash them with the boiling water several times.
