Hi everyone,
I just got a new oscar for my 55gal tank, he is about 3.5 inches long, i try feeding him cichlid pellets but he spits them out, any suggestions on what he should eat, and is it normal for oscars to lay down on there side? He seems really healthy, and is always out swimming, but sometimes he lays on his for 10-15 mins, is that normal.

Yes that is normal Oscar behavior. Usually they call it sulking cause they do it when they are being disturbed IE water changes, tank rearranging. It may be the type of pellets or the pellets may be too big. I just switched to omega pellets about two weeks ago and none of my fish will eat them. They just spit them out. I had to go back to NLS.
