purple cichlid - Aquarium Advice

Hi,

Just in the process of setting up a 110 gal malawi tank.

Wanted to know if there are any brightly coloured purple varieties.

Ive seen a pic of one before but i cant find it now, and my mate has my cichlid book

any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you're thinking of acei.

Like Voodoo said...Acei are purple: P. acei

Rusty cichlid dominant males have a lavendar color on their sides: I. sprengerae

Cynotilapia afra cobue are purplish colored...I think its mostly the dominant male though...most others look more blue:C. afra (cobue).

there are a few variants of acei.
By your description I believe you would be after P. acei "msuli point"
which incidently is the most common variant found in Aus.
