How hard is it to tell the sex of an angelfish when they are about the size of a quarter or a little bigger?

It's hard period even with full grown ones. Sometimes the male will develop a bump on his forehead but other than during mating...no chance.
Angelfish can only be sexed when spawning. Males will have a short pointed breeding tube. Females tubes will be longer and wider. It would be great if there were some external difference for us to discern. Unfortunately there really isn't.
