I think you have a pair, just hard to be sure when they are young and rare breed. I've never came across Apisto's that wouldn't pair when put together from a young age and I think they will be fine. Try a tank divider for a while after feeding her up on bloodworm.
I've recently got a pair of Super Red Agazzi and they are the strangest pair yet in behavioural terms, the male has dug a two caves, one for him and one for her - he will also clean hers out and waits at his until she ventures out then escorts her around her around the tank only feeding when she feeds, cute couple - never seen anything like it in Apisto's.

Gotta love Apistos! That sounds like a true gentleman-fish!

If only mine could be a little more like that. I got the abusive husband version :(

I'll keep the "female" over there until I get some almond leaves going.

You're in the UK correct?

Northern Ireland, had to join a lot of forums and become a member of the British Cichlid Association before I could get really good Apisto's - my LFS hardly ever got them in apart from standard Agazzi's.

Gotcha, that is unfortunate. I would live to get some Apistos from you! Too bad I'm in Georgia, US...

Depends on the fish to be honest. Each individual fish (especially when dealing with that small) can have some restrictions. Like I read (since I've never kept) that a Scarlet Badis is very finicky as far as eating. So I think perhaps putting or leaving him with you Licorice Gourami in the 5 gallon would be ok.

The badis likes it better in the 20 gal ima just get it heavily planted with a few more fish
