I recently switch my substrate from gravel to sand and my red zebra keeps scooping up sand and dropping it on a specific rock on the opposite side of the tank where is cave is. Is he just getting used to the sand? Or is he playing? I'm not nervous about anything I'm just curious lol. He is also the dominant fish in the tank

Sounds to me like he is just rearranging the sand to his liking.

I have a few cobalt blue zebras that are always moving sand. They do it for entertainment I think. lol

Very normal, my lethrinops will shovel sand, and my albino socolofi always digs himself a house underneath a rock, he'll dig a hole 4-5" in diameter and 2-3" deep in a day. Always hard at work.
Especially since I come in and level, and rearrange the rocks every week.
