Rojo looks like a male to me. Nice fish. You're doing an awesome job with it's health.

My female reached only 9" at the two year mark. Didn't grow much more after that.

Rojo is getting big & still looking good. How is her aggression level?

She is with a group of a dozen filament barbs. She definitely keep them away from her but hasn't touched a single one. Little charge and they move on.

She occasionally tried to bite my fingers at the glass but seems alot more interested in eating than anything else.

She loved her cave and spends a good amount of time defending that space.

Despite no other cichlids being with her she still displays nice coloration and dominant attitude.

She has got to be very close to 8 inches at this point. Been in my care since end of March 2018, so her growth seems on the higher end compared to what I have read online. No idea if that means she will be a big girl or not but so far it's looking that way.

The way our new house layout is and where I want her tank to be, the biggest tank size I can fit comfortably would be a 60x24x30 inch. I feel this will be a good size for life for her and the barbs.

It's likely that Rojo is going to be really big. I agree that a five foot tank would be a great home for her. Might add four or five Y. Modesta Botia loaches to the tank for cleanup duty and for added interest. I keep a group of them in my highly aggressive African tank.

Why do you say that she will be really big? I figured her growth rate this far has been pretty normal.

Do you think she will be too big for a 5 x 2 for life? I was hoping that this tank size would be suitable.

With the school of filament barbs I feel as the tank is plenty active and stocked. I have no real desire to add more fish as I want to keep Rojo as the focus.
