Sand or gravel

I just got a 55 gallon tank to put my sa in and was wondering what would be better sand or gravel?

Either would work with a larger SA, I had a convict that loved moving my pea sized gravel. Took longer, but I think that might have been better for him. But, I really like sand.

What kind of SA is it?

ive got 3mm "pebbles" in my tank, not sure why they call em pebbles, its more like a cross between coarse sand and fine gravel if you ask me.

but the fish can sift through it for food scraps and its small enough to stop waste food falling between larger gravel and rotting

i have cichlid mix. which is basically just small seashells. make my ph nice and high.
