Sexing JDs?

I've sexed a few of my cichlids and have seen either oo of males or oO of females vents but when I got to my JD I seen OO. Do you look for something different when you sex them or do the oo just look bigger since it's a bigger fish? My JDs is around 5 or 6 inches long.

So why do they look bigger then the other fish I've sexed?

Could be due to the size but they are just like every other cichlid when it comes to venting.
