Sexing JDs?

I've sexed a few of my cichlids and have seen either oo of males or oO of females vents but when I got to my JD I seen OO. Do you look for something different when you sex them or do the oo just look bigger since it's a bigger fish? My JDs is around 5 or 6 inches long.
 
So why do they look bigger then the other fish I've sexed?
