I picked up this Gold Severum this weekend. He is about 10" long and seems pretty healthy overall. I am curious and concerned about his fins though. They were messed up when I got him on Friday and don't seem to be causing him any problems. Any explanations as to why they are so battered and will the repair themselves as grown as he is? Is there anything I need to do about it?

He came from the store this way. That may have been the case I suppose. When they are as mature as this one, do they're fins heal just as they do when they are younger and have this happen?

If I have a fish with fin damage, I always use melafix it treats bacterial infections and rapidly repairs damaged fins ulcers and open wounds and it's all natural

Yep melafix should do the trick hey, my Oscar had an unrelenting tank mate that I ended taking back to the pet store because he just shredded my oscars fins. Clean water and melafix worked a treat. Within a week or so you should start noticing the healing process and the fins growing back. You'd be surprised how well they heal.
